Heuristic Contraction Hierarchies with Approximation Guarantee

چکیده
We present a new heuristic point-to-point routing algorithm based on contraction hierarchies (CH). Given an ε ≥ 0, we can prove that the length of the path computed by our algorithm is at most (1 + ε) times the length of the optimal (shortest) path. CH is based on node contraction: removing nodes from a network and adding shortcut edges to preserve shortest path distances. Our algorithm tries to avoid shortcuts even when a replacement path is ε times longer.

On the Complexity of Contraction Hierarchies
Contraction Hierarchies are an experimentally well studied method to efficiently handle point-topoint shortest-path queries in large graphs. In a preprocessing stage the vertices of the input graph are iteratively removed, while the shortest-path structure of the remaining graph is preserved. This results in a hierarchy of graphs and shortest-path queries can be answered by only considering edg...
متن کاملTime-Dependent Route Planning
In this paper, we present an overview over existing speed-up techniques for timedependent route planning. Apart from only explaining each technique one by one, we follow a more systematic approach. We identify basic ingredients of these recent techniques and show how they need to be augmented to guarantee correctness in time-dependent networks. With the ingredients adapted, three efficient spee...
متن کاملOn Approximation Algorithms for the Minimum Satisfiability Problem
We consider the following minimum satisfiability (MINSAT) problem: Given a CNF formula, find a truth assignment to the variables that minimizes the number of satisfied clauses. This problem was shown to be NP-complete by R. Kohli, R. Krishnamurti and P. Mirchandani ( 1994). They also presented an approximation algorithm whose performance guarantee is equal to the maximum number of literals in a...

متن کاملTime-Dependent Contraction Hierarchies and Approximation
Time-dependent Contraction Hierarchies provide fast and exact route planning for time-dependent large scale road networks but need lots of space. We solve this problem by the careful use of approximations of piecewise linear functions. This way we need about an order of magnitude less space while preserving exactness and accepting only a little slow down. Moreover, we use these approximations t...
